We encourage researchers in Texas (faculty and student) to pursue funding opportunities for their research. If you are aware of any funding opportunities and would like them posted here, please contact [email protected]. This page will be updated as new opportunities are identified and added, or opportunities are marked as expired (listing may remain as a placeholder for future opportunities).
Funding OpportunitiesNatural Resources Department, Texas Comptrollers Office (expired) The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA) Natural Resources Program funds research to support data-driven Endangered Species Act decisions and voluntary conservation efforts. The program awards interagency contracts for services (“Contracts”) pursuant to Chapters 403 and 771 of the Texas Government Code to Texas public universities to conduct research on species of interest including candidate, petitioned or listed species under the federal Endangered Species Act. An open Call for Proposals (CFP) allows researchers flexibility to suggest species and methodologies within the criteria listed in the CFP. It is designed to draw specialized knowledge, diversify species and types of research, and increase knowledge about species of concern. Proposals are due Nov 7, 2022. Texas Academy of Science Student Research Competition The Texas Academy of Sciences offers competitive research awards for student research proposals. These awards are announced annually, and presented at the annual meeting of the Texas Academy of Science. Separate awards are given for Ph.D. student, Masters student, and B.S./B.A. student research proposals. The number of awards varies from year to year, although in most years three awards are given for each category (first, second, and third place). Guidelines for research proposals can be found here. NAAS Scholarship for AJAS Student Delegates (expired) The 2023 AJAS Annual Conference will be in Washington DC, March 1-5, 2023. Registration will start in early December 2022. The NAAS is establishing a needs-based scholarship program to benefit student delegates who wish to attend the 2023 AJAS Annual Conference. The intent of this scholarship is to provide support for student delegates (attending virtually or in-person) who have demonstrated merit to attend AJAS, but where financial limitations would otherwise prohibit their participation. At least $30,000 of scholarship money is available. Any academy of science planning on sending one or more student delegates to the 2023 AJAS Annual Conference is encouraged to apply. Interested academies should apply using the form linked below. Individual academies are asked to submit an approximately 250-word proposal to the NAAS describing concisely how they would use a portion of the funds to allow one or more delegates with financial need to attend the 2023 AJAS Annual Conference. Scholarships may be awarded for either virtual or in-person conference attendance.
